    I can't tell if the lens is screwed on so it could be swapped like they usually are because I didn't take it out of the frame, I just unplugged it from the board. But if not screwed on, it should be possible to outfit an additional lens like the ones sold to attach in front of the smartphone...

    Thanks for motivating! Same here, I would be paying 50-100% more for a brushless version with tilting camera, too. And even more if it was open source. I guess only most people just mainly look at the price and the manufacturers aim at maximum sales volume so that's what we get. Tinkering is fun...

    I was also thinking about it. Yes it needed to be very close and the coil might be too clumsy to be mounted underneath and could also block the sensors. You could use one of those magnetic usb cables/plugs or salvage a magsafe plug and mount it with a rubber band on your landing site.
