    Controller

I would definitely start her with the controller for the reason you stated, it preps her in using the sticks and flying more advanced drones. I also think it will be easier for her to control using the sticks and it opens up a full view of the screen.

    New to drones

Welcome. I agree, you can learn a lot and save yourself some grief by doing research on various forums. As far as a starter drone I think the Tello is a good place to start. Another good one is the Holystone HS160 (comes with a controller and is nearly indestructible). I'd recommend getting a...

    Welcome. Enjoy and stay safe.

    Registering?

That's not accurate as for as the NPRM in the U.S. is concerned. It comes down to weight not performance although there are some in the FAA that want to do away with the less than 250g exception.

    Registering?

BTW, while the Tello would not have to be registered according to this new regulation it could only be flown in FAA recognized flight areas such as AMA or other community based organization flying fields (few and far between). Technically you could not fly the Tello in your own backyard.

    Registering?

The Notice of Proposed Rule Making exempts for now drones weighing less than 250 grams from the registration requirements.

    Registering?

No. The Tello is less than 250 grams so it does not have to be registered. That said you still have to abide by the basic flight rules including... No flights into controlled airspace (for the most part that's within 5 miles of an airport with a control tower) Remain under 400' Keep the drone...

    Tel Aviv beach

Very nice! My wife and I are taking a trip to Hawaii next year and I was undecided about which drone to take (Tello, Mavic Pro or Anafi). It will only be used for taking photos and I'm not looking to get super high resolution, just pictures to share with family and friends. My concern is all...

    Radio communication

The Air and Spark don't use Occusync even when flying with a controller.

    Drone Causes House Fire

I use LIPO charge bags but I don't think those bags are going to completely stop a fire from spreading if left unattended. Based on what I've read and seen most fires occur when charging a battery (charger overcharges, battery or battery is defective, etc.) In my opinion the bags buy you some...

FAA Part 107 sUAS Recurrent Test ~

Flying a small drone does NOT make all the laws void. You still have to abide by airspace rules and restrictions.

Just a little windy and not able to fly?

Top speed is about 17mph. I'm sure that requires a fully charged battery. Against a 10mph wind you're going to get 7mph going against the wind if everything else is optimal and it will get bounced around if there are any wind gust.

Do many of you have a Tello along with a larger drone?

I have a Hubsan H501SS, Parrot Anafi and DJI Mavic Pro as well as a couple of smaller drones. I do the just for fun flying with the Tello, Holystone HS160 and the H501SS. The Anafi and Mavic Pro are for doing anything serious (serious in an amateur way) video/photograph.
