Just to be clear, what they’re measuring is not in doubt. It’s “who” is ‘they’ that is in question. Different agencies do this in different countries, but it’s not that common that national weather services also monitor particulates. I’d be very surprised if the US NWS was running a whole air... -

This is an air pollution measurements site. The big dome things are high-volume particulate filter samplers, most of the rest is temperature/wind measurement.
