    The Tello does have an altitude sensor which it's supposed to use if it can't position using its visual positioning system.

    So the range refers to maximum WiFi distance then?

    The specs say that the Tello has a flight distance of 100 m. So, if you fly upwards for 100 m, you'll have no battery to fly down again. It'll drop out of the sky.
