Is there a way to send commands/receive camera input by using USB?

I have a arduino and I want to get the data from the tello(camera) and also send commands to the tello. Can I do this without connecting to the wifi?
If not, I should just go with my plan of a wifi module and raspberry and connect the module to the tello wifi to control? In this case, I can have my drone do autonomous flight without needing an laptop or external wifi connection

I don't believe you can, because when the hardware detects a USB connection it goes into power charge mode. Even if you disable that, there's nothing to say that port even accepts data.
I bought the Tello purely for development purposes, and would love something like this.
