One of the motor is dead and already purchased a set of spares from the net

Warranty does not cover accidents. If that Tello is his son's, then most likely than not, it suffer a crash.
 
IMG_20190830_223013.jpgrepeat the same steps for the other wire, but make sure both wires are tucked at different locations and there is no contact

Thanks for the write up and pics. Good for future reference. Perhaps a small dab of silicone on the exposed wires to conceal from the elements.

Glad you were able to get your kid's Tello up and running!
