The future of vGPS & FollowMe...
vGPS is working OK for flight path analysis in Google Earth. Also the Google maps marker for the last known position is just an approximation but certainly better than nothing at all. At least its a starting point for your search in case
Tello is lost.
POI lock on the phone position also seems to be good enough for some selfie videos (like people passing
Tello on a bike).
But for FollowMe vGPS just isn't good enough. The phone compass doesn't consistently provide accurate bearings. With the current precision FollowMe results often look ridiculous, with people walking out of the frame after just 20m or so. As Raul said, he sees a working FollowMe in maybe 50% of his attempts which just doesn't seem acceptable to me.
I don't want to see tons of failed FollowMe videos on YT. I don't want to deal with the frustration people will face. And I don't want to deal with the low app ratings and reviews that would result from this.
I spent a lot of time and energy on this feature but I am running out of ideas. Consequently I will stop development of vGPS FollowMe. Its a dead end.
So what will happen now?
I consider the Google Earth / Maps features usefull and mature enough so vGPS itself will be released. It will be a paid In-App purchase because I want a "payment-wall" / barrier to keep casual users away. Otherwise I would drown in support requests by n00bs.
FollowMe will not be officially released. It will remain available as an unofficial & unsupported feature for vGPS enabled devices. It will require some easter-egg style unlock procedure, and of course the vGPS module.
Without the main feature the vGPS in-app purchase will cost only a nominal fee, maybe 1.50 Euro plus taxes. I don't expect large sales figures anyway - as said its more a payment wall to save my sanity.
