NEW DJI TELLO EDU DRONE RELEASED TODAY!

I asked Ryze tech support about the difference and the answer was Tello EDU drone has different hardware and firmware specifications compared to Tello drone.

My background is building and programming robots. I was about to purchase a Tello but will probably wait until I have more info on the Edu model.

One of my questions is if the Edu model is hooked on Apple products and I do not own any.
I don’t beleive this is accurate. Probably a way to convince you to spend $129. TelloPy existed before the EDU model was introduced and it works with the original Tello.

Someone would have to teardown this with original Tello. I Wonder if it will be possible now to run scripts directly on Tello Edu.

The tello weighs 80g and the tellu edu weighs 87g (propeller and battery included).

Ryze states that the tello will not be upgraded to run the SDK 2.0 which the tello edu uses. Many more commands than SDK 1.3

I can see why the SDK 2.0 would only work on the Tello EDU.
Based on the documentation, the main (only?) differences in the API (between 1.3 and 2.0) are commands to turn on/off and configure "mission pad detection", as well as mission pad detection information in the status reply you can get from the Tello.
This detection is obviously done by the hardware in the Tello EDU.
As for whether this is just a firmware update that is not available for the vanilla Tello, or there is actually a processing hardware difference between the machines, anyones guess is as good as mine.
