As a newbie, I've crashed my Tello several times, at low altitude and low speed. It's a remarkably tough machine. One time one of the motors wouldn't turn smoothly, but after cycling the prop by hand several times, that problem was fixed.
I've had one lost because I pushed it: too high, too far, and too much wind. My advice is to put your contact info right on the Tello, in case someone finds your lost one.
Advice if you start to get a flyaway: 1) put it in sport mode, 2) get more altitude, 3) run toward it (for better connection) if you can
