Takeoff command Tello - How does it work?

Using the takeoff command from Droneblocks and on my Gamesir controller is totally unreliable. Going thru droneblock tutorials for the tello Simple takeoff and land program destroys your tello into the ceiling more than half the time you run the program. Tried takeoff with the gamesir same thing sometimes goes up 2 feet other times smashes the ceiling. I have been thru the calibration a few times. What actually controls how high the tello flys at takeoff? The next time I run that program im going to hold the tello in my hand and issue the takeoff command, will the props ever stop spinning or is based on the sensors on the bottom of the tell?. Would be very nervous to run that droneblock program outside the house, probably would never see again. Seems like the tello needs sensors on its top when flying indoors.
