Flying a Tello Commercially: Do I need to register with FAA, and am I allowed to fly over people?

Hey,

I searched these forums and I am still not sure if I need to register with the FAA if I plan to use my Tello commercially?

If I don't register it, and/or fly over people, am I subject to any penalties?

So basically a drone below 250 grams (such as the Tello), still abides by the FAA Commercial Operator regulations, since it is under 55 pounds?

As per the US FAA anytime you get paid for any of your pictures no matter the size and weight of the drone you need the drone license. If you give away the picture you don't need it. Only if you get paid. Also you are not allowed to fly over people.

They can, but they must get that waiver, if not you may be subject to penalty from your local LEO’s. Also, make sure to check local laws that may effect drone flying.

If you're going to risk flying over people with a Tello then the least you can do is get good liability insurance to cover yourself if you hit someone with it. Personally, I would advise against it.

Only one waiver has ever been approved to fly over people, just a few weeks ago. The FAA approved the waiver, but the drone included a safety parachute system
