I've no problems with my smartphone. I can easily adjust the brightness of the display. I put the brightness on max and that's fine for me.

I use a head-mounted display (e.g. Google Daydream View) on those bright occasions. Worth a shot.

Sounds like a good idea untill the sun reflects off your shirt.
I have found the freewell remote moniter sunshade to work the best
