New Tello Pilot, Crash First flight

So I fly a Mavic Pro normally, got a Tello and Gamesir T1d today, all updated and calibrated before... Flew brilliant, stable and clear video, 4 bars wifi, then flew off on its own, no reverse or anything.. Crashed and recovered.. Windy today so think I should have used fast setting ?
