Gosh, I can't believe no one ever answered you here. Did you get an answer? My guess is that this would not be possible with an inexpensive controller like the GameSir T1d, already designed for the Tello exclusively. Also, I don't think the Bluetooth frequency at such low power, intended basically for just a few feet, would interfere with the WiFi longer range frequencies, in this case only 2.4 Ghz. 5.8 is only in bigger drones.Guys,
Is it possible to connect the Gamesir remote via wired to my phone, and therefore not use the Bluetooth. I think that will make the wifi connection a bit better?
This has been a very helpful post, thank you to all who have contributed. i can't tell you how many frustrating hours I've spent searching for answers on what controller to get.
I'm getting this for my son and want to be sure that what is under the Christmas tree actually works so he's not disappointed.
Sounds like the preferred method is the T1s with an OTG cable. Now I have read that Android phones will need to be rooted; is this actually the case? I have an old Nexus 5 that I was going to give him with it (wish i didn't need the phone at all) but want to make sure all this works...

I can't say with certainty what is the earliest version that supports OTG
Hmm I have a Mavic... my guess it that's a hard no. Not to mention that I would not want to mess up the rock solid connection I have going with my Mavic to fly my TelloNot sure on the Mavic, dont have one yet, but shes coming. And yes it is a micro USB.
It works with ios and android and you can use an otg cable to fly your Tello. So , does a gamesir T1s only work with android phones?
Thanks for the answer JasonMC.
