CONTROLLERS - PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BUY!

It claims to be MFI compatible so I see no reason why it should not work. But I haven't tried it so no guarantees.

Not sure if I should post this somewhere else:

I finally got an answer, in the forum, to why my wired USB gamepad was not working with fpv in spite of working with the suggested gamepad tester android app. I had a version of Android (11 I think) that doesn't work. So I tried it on another phone that didn't have that version, and it worked.

Someone was asking about the possibility to save MAPPINGs. I was afraid it meant that the the app forgot the mapping when you exited. I was trying to see if I could find some CONFIG file that I could save and/or even edit but I could not find anything. Maybe that could be found if the phone was rooted. But thankfully the app remembers the mappings that were made. My gamepad is identified in the menu as Shanwan Android Game. Is that something that was in the app, or an ID that the gamepad broadcasted? Could it be possible to save some other mapping under the Microsoft x box , and Magicsee R1 entries in the dropdown and use with another gamepad?

Now I'm trying to figure out the remapping controller interface.

𝑰 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒑 𝑻𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒐𝒇𝒇/𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒖𝒑𝒑 𝑫Pad UP 𝒃𝒖𝒕𝒕𝒐𝒏 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒊𝒕 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒕 "𝑨𝒙𝒊𝒔 _𝒉𝒂𝒕_𝒀- ...outside dialog window, but I'm guessing +1 or -1... " 𝑰𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈? Will the max on the joystick up also lead to landing?? (I could of course check that practically, but I'm waiting for good weather)
I never want to use the flip functions. 𝑪𝒂𝒏 𝑰 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒇𝒂𝒖𝒍𝒕 𝒎𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒇𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒔?? DPad UP for example. How come that is still there for forward flip, in spite of my getting it to map to TAKEOFF?

I*m trying to prepare to use VR FPV. I was annoyed when trying to film something only using phone touch while in bright light and barely seeing anything. So I'm going to have the phone in a VR head holder. I was glad to see that I could even do some things in the app, at least while not flying, like open menu, go up & down, select options with the gamepad. 𝑰𝒕 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒊𝒇 𝑭𝑷𝑽 𝒂𝒑𝒑 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒗𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆, it's almost impossible to see the slight difference in the "active" element.

I have seen now that the app imports the game pad ID. On a newly installed app there was only the onscreen controls listed before connecting.
Correct, the gamepad provides its ID which is used to store mappings for each gamepad separate. That is If the ID is unique. Some gamepads only provide a model name.

Gamepads cone in very different styles with different button and stick arrangements. There is no standard so some use different IDs for sticks and buttons.

Your controller calls the DPad Up button Axis_hat_y_1 instead. It most likely doesn't have another button it calls Dpad Up so you can't map any function to Dpad up.
To remove an unused mapping just double tap it.

Did you try double tapping the D-Pad map item in the list to delete assigned task? I have deleted others this way but not a D-Pad. I know I have to tap it more than a double. Maybe I was too fast but pecking away at it I delete other mapped assignments.

Just thought I'd share the generic wired USB controller/gamepad that I've been learning to use with my TelloFPV android app which seems very compatible. It self-identifies as Shanwan. I bought it from Temu October 2023 for 155 SEK. But it says "This item was discontinued" if I click on the order now. I don't see it on Temu now:

But I just looked at Aliexpress and they seem to have it here for 114 SEK

You need an adapter USB A Female to Male micro or C depending on your phone

I would like a wired controller to keep from taking away signal from the camera. Was hoping it was going to be a go.

Thats a much better choice than most other controllers.

These RC style controller focus on control precision (slow, precise moves of gimbals over a partial range) where playstation controller are more about longevity (millions of aggressive moves using the full range of the gimbals).

The Parrot FlyPad is also very precise, but hard to find and does allow wired connection. Its BTLE and not old style Bluetooth, so a bit better in terms of video jitter than other contollers. But for me it requires the use of a range extender to give acceptable video for VR FPV.
