another Tello Pilot (Android App)

This run pretty good but on my Samsung Galaxy tab S the icons functions are so smal; could you improve a way to get them bigger?

I am having issues with my phone rebooting when using a remote, I am using a Logitech F710 Gamepad on a Samsung Galaxy S6 with and OTG Adapter.
Before rebooting, I loose control of the Quad for a few seconds, then the controls come back for a few seconds then the phone reboots...

Its done this 2 times on 5 Flies...
Does anyone else have this issue ?

aTelloPilot V0.3 released

Hi, I published aTelloPilot V0.3.
Here are the changes in this release.

1. Video Process switch in Settings for low tier devices (default : off)
   • turn Video Process on in Settings for face tracking
   • if your device does not support required feature, it is turned off internally
   • face tracking is deactivated when it is off
   • if your device is slow when it is on, turn it off
2. Video artifacts are improved
   • drop broken video packets
3. Fixed bugs
   • some minor bugs reported

Actually Android devices are too much fragmented, so some devices are not working properly.
So I made an option to switch off Video Processing used for face tracking.
It is effective for low tier devices because there is no need to read the video frame back.
If your device is slow when the 'Video Process' is on, try to run without it.
Without 'Video Process' face detection feature will not work but other features are still working.

And video artifacts are much improved in this version.
Broken video packets are dropped as official Tello app does.

LG X Power
HTC u11
De- and reinstalled on both Phones.

Video Transmission on HTC is terrible. Half the screen is green. Video Delay is about 3 seconds. So I cant try no other features.

On LG X Power the Video Delay is about 2 seconds. Without artifacts. Target point seems to Work better than before, but it still drifts away.
Face Tracking seems to Work better than before too. But still drifting several meters.
Means it ends up in a tree today.
So now I have to find a way to reach it, but its to high to Climb by myself on the tree.
If I get it back I will Test the other features.

I hope you saved your Tello.
Can you try V0.3 release?
It is just released.

Thanks for your feedback.
Android devices are too much fragmented, so it's hard to test every devices personally.
Face tracking is the representative feature of this app but it requires specific codec support and cpu performance.
It's good to hear other features are working on your devices.

This Compass/gyroscope Thing wont Work well. It Starts to navigate a bit to left and right, but thats it. Nothing more.

The Basic Features Works well in my LG, even the headless mode.

So I had a few procent Power and tryed the HTC u11. And there Works nothing.
It Starts with over 10 seconds Time delay.
So it is not possible to Test all the Features over all. All I tried then to Fly basicly, and it flys. But dumb as I am I forgot to Record the screen. I charge the Battery and will try it again.

Are you just planning to implement a RTH Button?

I wish my english where better.

Very thanks for your video and reviews.
About face tracking, your LG x phone doesn't have enough power to handle face tracking in real time.
Rectangle should be moved smoothly but yours are not..

And target tracking..
Your drone heading is reversed when the feature is activated.
Drone should face same north side where drone is on.
I think it needs to show the grid orientation not to misunderstand.

Can you try it after aligning same direction between you and drone?
Place Tello in front of yourself (not facing yourself) and turn power on.
You can see Tello faces north side and then activate the feature.

Oh.. I missed about RTH feature,
I have a plan to implement it in the next release.

Tello ja actually charging. If its charged I do some more tests.

But the HTC have much more Power than the LG. And on HTC its basicly not usable because of the extem Time Delay.

I tried Target point with the LG again.
It Works almost Perfect. But how to point forward / backward? I could only get it to the left and right?
I hope you understand what I mean in the Video:

Over all the App Works better in my LG, but it has the lower Hardware Power. The only Thing which is Buggy is Face Tracking. Too bad, I like the Idea of Face Tracking.



Target point seems to Need some other Ideas to Work with it. And what I miss in this Feature is, that I can Control the bird when it goes to the Target. But right now one have to cancel Target point.

Again, an RTH Option would be a cool Feature too.

Keep up your Project, its a lot oh fun for us!!!

So it should return to the last Place or direction where it has the last Connection.

Yes.. the feature seems cool..
But without connection, aTelloPilot can't do anything.
The feature should be supported by the Tello firmware.

One more Thing...
I forgot the last Postings something to tell you:
If I navigate (with both of my phones) and my fingertip is out of the naviation-circle, the drone stops. Means: If I turn right on z-achse, and my fingertip comes out of the circle/Navigation Field, it stops turning to the right.
I tested it with the original stock app too, because I cant remember if its do so too.
But in the original stock app the drone Keep Flying in the direction.
(I hope my english was good enough ??)
Is it possible to get this in your App too??

About target point, I missed drone orientation when the target point was set.
drone should be moved to target point regardless of its orientation (even though it faces your side)
I fixed the bug and it will be released in the next version.

Hi Mario,

I think you are saying red thumb button of the OSD controller, right?
Actually it doesn't stop unless you don't release your finger..
You can check red thumb button is following even if your finger is outside of the OSD circle.
But I think you may see the issue when the finger is outside of the LCD because OSD stick position is fixed and larger on aTelloPilot than official Tello app.
I think it will get better if OSD sticks are moved to the center side.

I have a Gamesir T1D controller that works without problems on thr original Ryze Tech app.

Now on the atellopilot app it does not work at all. It does find the controller and I select it and it takes it. But, the pairing lights on the T1D just keep blinking (pairing mode). I launched the tello anyway but it wont respond to any T1D inputs. Hmm.

Actually Gamesir T1D is not a generic game controller so it is not detected as a game controller on Android devices.
DJI mentioned it is only working with Tello app.

Read before try: ONLY GameSir T1d adopted to control RYZE DJI Tello

I think it can be supported as Parrot FlyPad once I decode BLE packets.
But I am not sure when it is supported by my app because I don't have the controller now..

If it is detected as a game controller with USB OTG cable,
I think you can use it with aTelloPilot right now..

Thanks...USB OTG with one of my xbox one controllers worked fine. But, USB OTG with Gamesir T1D does not work.

EDIT: Why is there no "fast mode" in your app?
